Founded
Kuumade Association was formed in 2025 by a group of East African (BIPOC) social workers who saw an urgent, unmet need among low-income, English-limited refugee and immigrant community members for a host of services including resource and systems navigation, social and community connection, healing from trauma, housing, healthcare access, and transportation to and from community events and worship services.
In the early phases, Kuumade Ass. expanded services to include food deliveries, a weekly hot meal of culturally-specific (Halal) foods that nourish memory, hope, and spirit as well as the body. In partnership with faith-based organizations, the members engaged all ages of the community with outreach, combating misinformation on immigration, election rumors, education, low-income housing intake, and transportation.
Services and supports incorporate youth or senior adult voice and choice, and are responsive to the individual needs of each community member. Resources identified to support efforts to secure appropriate housing include behavioral health services, civil legal aid, peer support, family reconciliation services, employment support, education support, case management, housing and financial support, and navigation support to secure safe and stable housing.
Guided by compassion and cultural understanding, we walk alongside our refugee and immigrant neighbors, helping them build safe, thriving lives in Washington State.
We provide culturally-sensitive trauma support and peer connection, creating safe spaces where healing begins and community bonds grow stronger.
Our weekly Halal meals and culturally-specific food deliveries nourish memory, hope, spirit, and body—honoring the rich culinary traditions of our East African community.
We break down barriers to housing, healthcare, legal aid, and education through personalized navigation support—ensuring every voice is heard and every need is met.
From culturally-specific meals to systems navigation, we provide essential services that help refugee and immigrant families thrive.
